AWS North East User Group – Recap

Last week we were pleased to host our 1st
AWS North East User Group event of 2019, and to kick off the year we lifted the bar slightly with a new sponsor from “God’s Country”. This was the 3rd event since the re-boot of the user group where we have visited 3 different locations across the North East of England (Newcastle, South Shields and Sunderland). The plan is to visit a different region with each event we host to build on the community as we move across the North east.

This event was sponsored by Tombola in Sunderland and we were very pleased to host the event in their new £7m Sunderland campus. (WOW WHAT CAN I SAY a very impressive building and working environment)

We kicked off the event with a brief introduction from Kyle on the members of the leadership team (Steve Drew, Alan Burns) and how we plan to make 2019 the best year for the AWS North East Community.

First up we had Stuart Redshaw@Tombola Data Engineering Manager – with a session on Tombola’s data challenges and how they overcome this using AWS

Following a brief Networking session and a few Beers and Pizza’s provided by the sponsor we had
Phil Atkinson@Tombola with a first ever community session on how Tombola uses of AWS services and how they have been adopted services over the years.

We would like to say a special thank you to Tombola for sponsoring the event and supplying the Pizzas and the beers, without your continued support these events would not be possible.

Our Slack channel can be joined with the following Link, if you have any suggestions for any sessions please get in touch with the Leadership Team Kyle, Steve or Alan by email, Twitter or Meetup, check out the time lapse of the attendees at the event.

Thanks All, see you Next time – Wednesday May 22nd 6-8pm where we will be going back to Newcastle with a new sponsor – Accenture.
