How to install PowerCLI 6.5.1

PowerCLI 6.5.1 is now module based ………….

As of the latest release PowerCLI is much simpler to install, the VMware PowerCli Blog and full documentation can be found here.

To install the new version follow the below steps.

Remove any existing PowerCLI installations.

  1. Open Program & Features
    • Navigate to the installation of PowerCLI
    • Remove the program
    • Accept UACIMAGE-001
  2. Install the latest version of PowerCLI via powershell.
    • Open a Powershell window with “elevated PowerShell permissions”
    • Accept UAC Control
    • Type the following “Install-Module -Name VMware.PowerCLI -Confirm:$false –Force”IMAGE-002
    • The following components will be installedIMAGE-004IMAGE-003
  3. Load the PowerCLI Module
    • Type the following “Import-Module VMware.PowerCLI”IMAGE-005
  4. List the available modules
    • Type the following “Get-Module”IMAGE-006
  5. Connect to a vCenter Server and run a simple script
    • Confirm you are connected to the vCenter with a simple commandList all Servers that have the Name DC

      “Get-VM | Where {($_.Name -like “DC*”)}”
